Plantains are a staple in the Puerto Rican culture. There are so many ways to cook them and endless recipe possibilities. One of my favorites is fried plantains. They can be served as a side dish or even turned into a dessert. Here’s my recipe for making delicious fried plantains.
Start with Ripe Plantains
For this recipe, you want to choose the sweetest plantains. Look for yellow ones that might already have some darker spots. The green bananas are not ripe yet and work better as tostones.

Get Chopping!
The next step in creating the perfect fried plantains is chopping the bananas. I suggest slicing the plantain down the middle and pulling the skin off that way. Then chop to the thickness you desire.
Hear that sizzle?
The rest of the recipe is even simpler! Heat a skillet with your oil of choice. I suggest coconut or olive oil. Then, throw the slices in the pan and cook until brown.
Add a topping and enjoy!
Now this is my favorite part. Pick your favorite topping and eat! I like to toss sugar and crema on top. You can also toss salt if you don’t have much of a sweet tooth.

Give this recipe a try! I’d love to hear how it turned out and what toppings you chose!
