“You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.” (Ephesians 4:22-24)
Imagine walking into your favorite store and seeing two sets of display signs. One is marked “Your name” and fills the left side of the room and the other is marked “God” and fills the right side of the room. Now the aisle that runs through the tables to the back of the store is your life. As you walk through the store, you will constantly have to choose whether your favorite jeans will come from your collection or God’s.
This scenario is exactly what we deal with in our daily lives. Each moment of the day we are at a crossroad deciding whether we will dress ourselves in our own worldly characteristics and desires or whether we will remove our rags and place on holy garments.
God calls us to put off falsehood (worldly attire) and put on truthfulness (Godly attire). “Unwholesome talk” must be replaced with encouraging and loving words to “build each other up.” Bitterness, rage and anger are to be replaced with kindness, compassion, and forgiveness. (Ephesians 4:29)
So what will you wear today?
