A Letter to Mothers

Dear Moms,

Motherhood looks different for everyone. There is no one-size-fits-all. Most of us are just trying to figure it out.

a letter to mothers

To the mothers struggling to breastfeed, I see you. This is one of the hardest things you will do in your life. From the pain, swelling, and leaks to lack of milk supply, drop in a great milk supply, and spit-ups, it’s physically and emotionally taxing. I hope you know this season does not define you as a mother. For some, this may come easy, and to those moms, I say amen. You deserve every glorious moment. For others, milk may be low or never come. In those moments, it may feel devastating. You may feel worthless to support your child. Don’t let that negative self-talk win. You are worthy and the perfect mother for your child. God hand-picked you to raise your child in this world.

To the mothers whose children refuse to sleep, I see you. You are your child’s whole world and they can’t stand even a second without you. I know it’s exhausting. I hope that God can give you rest in any way. I recall many, many, many sleepless days and nights where I prayed for even just a few hours of relief. It will come, eventually, I promise.

To the mothers with angel babies who make everything feel effortless, amen to you! You are the beacon of hope to the rest of us. Don’t let anyone make you feel like you should be ashamed that your child sleeps through the night or that you handle motherhood easily. Some women thrive in these seasons and can lend a hand to the mothers struggling to stay afloat.

To the mothers using formula, amen that you’re providing for your child. Don’t feel ashamed of your choice to bottlefeed. Your bond will be strong with your baby and your child will do great things. How you feed your baby doesn’t define whether you are a good or a bad mother. It is your choice to mother as you see fit.

To the mothers on this journey alone, God sees you. Although you may not have a partner to share sleepless nights with, God is always with you. He sees you showing up to multiple jobs to support your family. He sees you sacrificing for your baby so they can have a great life.

I hope that you find joy in your seasons of motherhood.

With love,

Bree
